Adult students honored with scholarships and awards

A total of 24 UW-Madison non­tra­di­tional and return­ing adult stu­dents will be hon­ored April 24 with schol­ar­ships hav­ing a total value of $70,000.

Janet Moore, a sin­gle mother, is one of two recip­i­ents of the Out­stand­ing Under­grad­u­ate Return­ing Adult Stu­dent Award with her son, Austin. Janet is study­ing art and envi­ron­men­tal stud­ies and she vol­un­teers in the McFar­land School dis­trict and at the UW Arboretum.

Stu­dents, fam­i­lies, friends, fac­ulty, and staff are invited to attend the awards recep­tion from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Union South. The recep­tion and the schol­ar­ships are coör­di­nated by UW-Madison Con­tin­u­ing Stud­ies, Adult Career and Spe­cial Stu­dent Ser­vices.

The two stu­dents who will be hon­ored with Out­stand­ing Under­grad­u­ate Return­ing Adult Stu­dent Awards this year are Janet Moore of McFar­land, a dou­ble major in art and envi­ron­men­tal stud­ies; and Jessie Otradovec of Madi­son who is a triple major in physics, math­e­mat­ics, and astronomy.

This award rec­og­nizes return­ing adult under­grad­u­ates for their excep­tional deter­mi­na­tion, per­se­ver­ance, and con­tri­bu­tions to the community.

Four award final­ists also will receive finan­cial awards. They are: Jacek Kraszewski, Mar­garita Northrop, Daniel Ramirez, and Debra Westby, Nine addi­tional nom­i­nees will be recognized.

The fol­low­ing will be awarded schol­ar­ships specif­i­cally des­ig­nated for non­tra­di­tional and return­ing adult students:
