Chocolate for a “Woman who Inspires”

Roses?
Diamonds?
Ferrari?
While most of us would love a sports car, we also would be wildly excited about tasting some silky chocolate on Valentine’s Day.

Luckily for Continuing Studies’ Prof. Emily Auerbach and her 30 Odyssey Project students, Godiva Chocolate Co. shared a wealth of their finely-crafted Belgian treats in class yesterday, the evening before the traditional holiday for celebrating love and friendship.

Godiva Chocolate sent a videographer to the Madison campus for two days this week to record Auerbach’s various academic activities and to interview her students for a two-and-half minute video to be featured on the Godiva website.

The video honors Auerbach, The Odyssey Project’s director, as the Midwest regional winner of the company’s “Women Who Inspire Us” program; the honor includes a $1,000 contribution to The Odyssey Project. Auerbach established the  project that offers a free six-credit UW humanities course to low-income adults ten years ago. Many of the students have gone on to complete college degrees and some are now in graduate school.

In March, the Godiva staff selects the program’s top winner from a group of nine women; the selected woman receives a $10,000 grant for use by the nonprofit organization that she established.

Of course, we’re rooting for Continuing Studies’ favorite Valentine. So is Madison’s Channel 15 News Team which came out last night to film the Godiva staff videotaping Emily in the classroom with her students.

Hope you watched the coverage on the morning news!
