Holiday helpers at Continuing Studies

A Continuing Studies holiday tradition many of us look forward to each year is helping to fill gift bags given to women in treatment at the ARC Center for Women and Children.

This year through generous donations, we filled and delivered 39 bags with personal care items including toiletries, towels, socks, gloves, note cards and more. Staff members also make handmade gifts of jewelry, scarves, mittens and hats that are added to the bags.

In the early years of our relationship with the Center we donated gifts for the children of their clients. But when a corporate sponsor offered to provide toys, the Center directors told us of another need; the moms were often overlooked at the holidays, and many can’t even afford the most basic necessities for personal care.

We give special thanks to the “elves” of this year’s Holiday Project Committee – Bobbie Wang, Sybil Pressprich, Nancy Koberle-O’Connell and Joann Schrage.

The ARC Center for Women & Children in Madison is a licensed community-based, women’s-specific, alcohol and other drug abuse day treatment program. The Center provides women-specific AODA educational and treatment services five days per week.

The Center’s services are designed to address the childcare barriers women face as they attempt to access treatment; to provide AODA treatment within the family context, particularly the mother/child bond.

The ARC center also provides services specifically for the children of the mothers served, including on-site child care, community child care placement, child/family therapy, parenting for the mothers and AODA prevention services for the children.
