New! Learn about UW’s life coaching certificate at free sessions

Two, free informational webinars about University of Wisconsin-Madison’s new interactive Professional Life Coaching Certification (PLCC) program are scheduled for June 6, 10 a.m.-11 a.m. (CST) and July 12, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (CST) .

Professional life coaching is considered one of the top 10 growing businesses, says the certificate’s curriculum developer and instructor Darcy Luoma, who has worked as a certified organization development and life coach in Madison, Wis. for more than a decade. She was recently named Madison’s Favorite Life Coach by Isthmus newspaper.  Darcy also served as the director of U.S. Senator Herb Kohl’s office and has led trainings with many prominent Wisconsin companies and organizations.

“Life coaches help their clients reach their goals whether they are personal or career-oriented,” Luoma, who holds a master’s degree is organizational development from Pepperdine University, notes. “It is for those interested in helping to guide, inspire and empower others to reach their full potential.”

The program may interest internal trainers, human resource professionals or others wanting to enhance their career skills.

The 135-hour blended learning program, which meets September through May, is a mix of face-to-face classes and teleconferences.  The in-person modules take place on UW-Madison’s campus and participants can access the teleconferences remotely. The certificate uses a cohort model to develop a strong community of learning.  Program details are available at continuingstudies.wisc.edu/certificates/professional-life-coaching-certificate/

The curriculum draws upon multiple disciplines including positive psychology, systems theory and evidence-based coaching.  Skill development and hands on training are emphasized; throughout the program participants work with their own clients while being supervised.
