Hundreds of authors took their writing to the next level at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Writers’ Institute April 12-14. The 29th annual event helped attendees learn about the publishing industry, improve their craft, and network with people who can boost their literary careers. It also marked the debut of the new Pathway to Publication program, which includes personal coaching and manuscript critique services.
Held at the Madison Concourse Hotel, the conference was full of activities for writers of all levels. Bestselling authors such as Ann Voss Peterson shared tips and tales from their own publishing journeys. Writers dug into their manuscripts with UW–Madison experts and fellow attendees. Many also pitched their work to influential agents and publishers, hoping to become the event’s next success story.
The fun didn’t end there, though. Whether perusing the onsite bookstore, browsing the latest issue of the Midwest Review, chatting with conference sponsors, or entering the Poem or Page contest, there were numerous opportunities to build community and be creative.
