Writing instructor wins 3-book contract for series set in Door County

Continuing Studies writing instructor Christine DeSmet is very familiar with the value of hard work, having grown up on a family farm in southwestern Wisconsin. She has written consistently since college and has found many successes along the way.

This year she celebrates signing a three-book contract with Penguin books for a mystery series based in Wisconsin’s own Door County. The series’ name relates to a certain type of shop that many Wisconsinites know only too well from their ramblings to Wisconsin Dells, northern Wisconsin resort communities, and–of course–to the state’s recreational jewel, Door County.

The new series celebrates ‘fudge shops’ and is titled: Door County Fudge Shop Mystery Series, written for New American Library/Penguin. This year the Madison author launches the first book, First-Degree Fudge.

Just think about the fun DeSmet is having as she concocts these mysteries, set in a landscape dotted with lighthouses, sand dunes, rocky cliffs, car ferries, Death’s Door, cherry orchards, and fish boils.
